How and When to Say I Love You For The First Time?

Perhaps one of the most important milestones in any romantic relationship, and probably one of the most difficult to tackle, is the act of saying ‘I love you’ for the first time. They may just be three simple words but they are remarkably powerful. The problem is that far too many people throw them about without any care in the world. Many people say those three words fartoo early on in a relationship which can of course cause problems. That is why I have put together this guide.

On this page we are going to discuss exactly when you should say ‘I love you’ for the first time in a relationship.

Firstly; it should actually be clear that you love somebodylong before those words leave your lips for the first time. It is important that you let you know your date how serious you are about the relationship. Talk to them about how great they make you feel and how much they have improved your life. At this stage you will probably be able to tell pretty quickly whether they are interested in you too or whether it is time to back off. Treat your date well (take on fantastic dates etc.) and they will get the message long before.

Before you say ‘I love you’ for the first time, it is probably worth thinking about whether you truly do want to be with that partner later on in life. Many people seem to think they are in love but simply can’t imagine the prospect of being with a particular partner five or six years down the line. This is not love…it is infatuation.

You should not rush into telling somebody that you love them. At least two months tend to be the norm before you let those words leave your lips. That being said; people do get tired of waiting, if you do not say those words quickly enough then it is likely that you will lose your date to somebody else. Nobody wants to be in a dead end relationship, right?

I am sure that by watching the way that your date acts around you and whether they are keen to go out it is likely that you will very quickly be able to see whether the relationship is going somewhere and whether there is a good chance that the feeling will be reciprocated.
So, how do you say ‘I love you’ for the first time? Well; anyway you want to be honest. Everybody does it their own way. Some people will slip it into a conversation (my preferred way of doing things), whilst others may plan a whole date around everything. Whatever you choose; the words are going to hold the same power.

I have to tell you one thing though; this is that you should not expect a response from your partner immediately. Telling somebody that you love them is a big step. You have had preparation, they have not. They will tell you in their own time (if they run away then maybe this is not the best relationship for you!)
